What is Schools Autism Acceptance Week?
Autism Acceptance Week in schools is a time to celebrate neurodiversity, raise understanding of autism, and encourage pupils and staff to create a more inclusive, supportive environment.
Since 2019 we’ve been campaigning for autism acceptance, working with theautistic community, families, schools and businesses across the North-east in a bid to change the narrative on how people view and understand autism.
Eight years ago we made an important shift and moved away from simply striving for awareness, pushing for autism acceptance instead. The support we’ve received along the way has been incredible but we know there’s more work to be done.

Why join us?
There are an additional 59,827 children with SEN support in North East schools in 2023/24. That’s an increase of 5% from 2022/23.
In 5 of the North East’s 12 local authority areas, less than half of new EHC plans are issued within the recommended time frame of 20 weeks.
